A free-to-play, first-person hero shooter game, Valorant was both developed and published by Riot Games and was released on Microsoft Windows.
It was teased in 2019 and it was officially released in June of 2020. With more than 12 million active players every month and one of the most viewed titles on Twitch, it’s safe to say that Valorant has established a solid fan base and that it has experienced massive success.

1. Overwatch
Overwatch held the title as the largest team-based hero shooter game for several years. This blockbuster hit was developed by Blizzard Entertainment and was published by Activision for PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Windows, and it was released in May of 2016.
This is definitely a title that you’re going to want to check out if you are a fan of Valorant, as it both looks and feels a whole lot like the game.
While it’s very similar to Valorant, Overwatch is much more simplistic. That is largely due to the fact that the developers took a classical approach with this title. You’ll play as part of a team of six players, and you will either defend your positions or you will push toward positions that are against the adversaries.
Furthermore, every player has to fill a role on the team, and there are thee roles to choose from. As such, there are always two tanks on the squads, as well as two DPS, and two support heroes.
You’ll play the heroes in the first-person, and each hero has a specific role and a minimum of two unique capabilities, weapon load-out, and ultimate skills; additionally, they can have extra traversal abilities, on occasion.
All in all, Overwatch is an easy to play, engaging game that offers hours of fun and features some pretty awesome capabilities. It has been such a hit that the developers are in the midst of making a sequel, though at the time of writing, the release date for the sequel had not been announced. It’s said that this title had a huge impact on Valorant, so it makes sense that we would include it on our list. The first entry of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive debuted as a Half-Life spin-off, and since it came onto the scene, it has asserted its place as a top-level multiplayer shooter.
The most recent entry of Counter-Strike, Global Offensive features two teams that are opposing one another: terrorists and counter-terrorists. You play as one of the two five player squats, and you’ll fight your adversaries in a closed urban location.
The goal of the game depends on the faction; however, the goal either involves planting bombs or defusing them. Just like Valorant, this entry of Counter-Strike is played in rounds, and you earn currency according to the actions you take. As you’d expect from a hero shooter game, you get to choose who will take a spot on your squad from a roster of impressive characters. You’ll play in the first-person, and all hearos have their own unique skills, equipment, and weapons that they can use.
Furthermore, all characters feature specific traversal capabilities that allow them to make their way across the arena faster. While the gameplay is first-person, you play in a squad of three, and working together, you and your squad will compete against 19 other teams of three player squads.
While things can get pretty intense, the tone of the game is actually surprisingly casual, as the cartoon-like imagery lends a lighthearted style, the skills are easy to comprehend, and the recoil is minor.
Apex Legends is constantly evolving, as Respawn Entertainment is constantly adding updates and patches to the title. Apex Legends continues to grow, and each year, it’s bigger than the previous year.
4. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
While it isn’t free and you do have to pay a fee, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is definitely worth checking out, if you don’t mind paying the fee, which is nominal and is easy to find at discounted rates across numerous platforms.
Developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft, the title was released in December of 2015 on PS4, PS5, Windows, Xbox Series, and Xbox One, and it can definitely be considered a top-tier squad-based multiplayer shooter game.
Just like in Valorant, in Rainbow Six Siege, you’ll select a class and play as part of a team. You can either siege a location as the police, or you can defend a location as the criminals. Additionally, you’ll select from a roster of characters, and each one has their own unique skills, advantages, and gadgets.
While there are several elements of Rainbow Six Siege and Valorant that are similar, there are some differences, too. One of the most notable differences is the realistic elements that are featured in the game. The weapons recoil, and the arenas are rather small and close together. As such, combat depends on fortifying regions, strategic pushes, and tactical holds.
Operators utilize skills, gadgets, and specific weapon load-outs for combat. For instance, a skill can allow you to break a wall, while a device can be used to track the movements or sounds of adversaries.
Finally, up to 10 players can be supported per match, which means that there are five players on each team. This real is consistent throughout the game; however, the developers do add maps, operators, weapons, gadgets, and rules with each and every update.
5. Escape from Tarkov
If you’re on the hunt for the ultimate tactical shooter game, then you are definitely going to want to check out Escape from Tarkov.
Developed and published by Battlestate Games, this title was released in 2017 on MacOS and Windows, and it offers a super punishing solo FPS PvP experience; in fact, it’s so complex that you will need hours of guides and playtime in order to master it.
The setting of Escape from Tarkov involves two military organizations that are combatting over a region in the fictional Norvinks. Tarkov, the city, is the main stage, and the goal of the game, as the title indicates, involves escaping the city. A short summary of the game involves entering Tarkov during raids that last for just 30 minutes.
You’ll loot as much gear, weapons, equipment, and anything else you might need as possible, and then you’ll escape to your to your offline hideout. Anything you loot and take with you can be used as a resource that can upgrade your gear, your load-out, or your shelter. That said, other entities can kill you and if you die, you can lose everything that you’re carrying.
In addition to the raid mechanics, Escape from Tarkov also features tough recoil, localized healing supplies, localized damage, thirst, hunger, and a whole lot more. There are character stats, too, and you can level up by completing certain actions; however, you can lose progress in your stats if you fail to complete specific activities for a while.
The elements in this title are challenging, gritty, and life-like; all in all, it’s very hardcore. As mentioned, if you die, you’ll lose all of your gear, and you can be taken out at any time; for example, a shot from a sniper rifle across the map can take you out in a second.
There are several ways that you can protect yourself, however; trading your loot for NPS, hiding your loot in particular areas, or setting special pouches that you can use to protect items in the event that you do die, for example.
The maps in Escape from Tarkov support up to 14 players, as well as numerous NPCs. You can either play by yourself or with a group of friends. Whichever option you choose, you’re definitely going to want to check this title out if you’re a fan of Valorant.

7. Paladins
Next up we have Paladins. This title was developed by Evil Mojo Games and was published by Hi-Rez Studios. It was released in May of 2018 on PS4, PS5, Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch. It’s another free-to-play hero squad-based shooter game.
The player base is super-healthy, as there are around 6,000 concurrent accounts on Steam every day; with that said, however, the game isn’t as popular as it used to be, but it still has a lot of fans and is worth checking out if you’re a fan of Valorant.
A high-fantasy shooter game, complete with gun-wielding, magical heroes, as well as artifacts that can be used against enemies, Paladins is definitely an entertaining, engaging, and action-packed game.
In this game, all of the champions have three skills, as well as an ultimate skill; however, the title offers different ways to customize the heroes while combining and matching capabilities that come from different characters. You can further customize your gameplay by leveling up and developing your own deck.
Champions have three talents, and you can select one talent per match. Furthermore, each Champion has 16 cards, and you can use five cars per match, which you will add to your deck beforehand. It’s a comprehensive multiplayer shooter game, and there’s a single-player or co-op campaign. The content in this game is player-generated, and the battles, as well as the mods, are custom-designed. There’s a competitive PvP mode, too. No matter which mode you play, however, the mechanics are the same.
This tactical first-person shooter game depends on cover mechanics, lots of strategy, and team cooperation and coordination. Domination is the primary mode of the game, and there are two teams, with a total of 10 players fighting vying for strategic positions.

There’s a fully-fledged story in The Division 2, as well as tactical third-person shooter gameplay, and RPG elements. You can play solo or as a member of a squad of up to four players. It takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, which is set in Washington DC.
Throughout the game, you’ll carry firearms, and you will depend on stealth and cover mechanics in order to finish quests. You’ll also combat AI adversaries and will loot gear of varying tiers and rarity. You can level up in order to unlock skills, as well, and to access weapons, and to even customize your character.
It’s an open world, so you are free to explore as you wish, and you can even recruit NPCs as AI companions. The majority of the content entails fetching quests, advancing settlements, and fast-traveling to safe houses.
All in all, The Division 2 isn’t in the same genre as Valorant; however, nevertheless, as far as tactical squad-based multiplayer shooter game, it is quite similar to Valorant. Additionally, the cover-based shooting mechanics in this game feel a lot like Valorant.
10. Spellbreak
Spellbreak was developed and published by Proletariat, and it was released in September of 2020 on PS4, Windows, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
While the developers, Proletariat, are no longer supportive of the title, which has definitely caused the fans to suffer (there are less than 1,000 players across all platforms a day), but nonetheless, it’s still reminiscent of Valorant.
The Battle Royale and the hero multiplayer shooter formula that is featured in this game is the reason why we included it on our list. It’s free-to-play, so it’s worth trying out; if you don’t like it, well, you don’t have to feel bad, because you didn’t invest anything.
In other words, you really have nothing to lose, but you do potentially have something great to gain, and that is an entertaining gaming experience.
In Spellbreak, you will get to choose a mage class and you will then play in a free-for-all magical battle. The 3D world is stunning, as the vibrant colors really capture your attention. The imager is cell-shaded, too, just like in Breath of the Wild.
These factors combined give Spellbreak a cartoonish imagery, and the third-person action-adventure multiplayer, squad-based PvP is just a lot of fun.
You can play as a member of a team of up to five players, and every member of the team has to coordinate and work together to combine their skills in order to achieve victory. You and your team have to survive until the end, and there are up to 42 players on every map. Battles are intense and fast-moving. You can fly, run, dash, float, jump climb, and even use magic.
