We already covered Water-type Pokémon, now it is time for its cousins, the Ice-types. Ice type pokemon are resistant to most attacks, and they are especially effective against fire type pokemon. In addition, ice type pokemon can learn a variety of powerful moves, such as Blizzard and Ice Beam. As a result, ice type pokemon are a force to be reckoned with in any battle.
There are only a few pure Ice-types though, so dual-types should have strengthened defense against Ice-types’ usual weaknesses.
Here is the list of 20 of the best Ice-type Pokémon across all games.
1. Articuno

Articuno is one of the first Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It does not have any evolution, though there is a regional Articuno in Galar. The latter is a dual-type Psychic / Flying shedding away the Ice type which disqualifies it from this list.
Articuno is a big bird Pokémon with mostly sky-blue plumage and ice-like wings. A crest of three darker blue rhombus-shaped feathers adorns its crest.
Articuno is one of the top Ice-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO, and you should capitalize on it by teaching it two ice-type moves: Frost Breath and Ice Beam. Both these are the best Fast Attack and Charged Attack options since they deal the most damage per second. Blizzard is also a viable option too. Although it is true that there will be better Ice-type Pokémon as Generations pass, Articuno is great at defeating dragons in gyms.
In Pokémon Fire Red, Articuno is the best Legendary bird as compared to Moltres and Zapdos, although both of them are not Ice-type obviously.
2. Alolan Ninetales

Alolan Ninetales is the regional form of Ninetales. It evolves from Alolan Vulpix using Ice Stone. It has a pale blue coat with fur that is more flowing and wispier than the vanilla Ninetales. White is seen on the tips of its tails and crest, as well as the lower portions of its legs. Its crest is longer, and its nine tails are less noticeable from one another. Furthermore, it has larger blue eyes and little tufts of fur in front of its ears.
In Pokémon GO, Ninetales is quite efficient against both Dragon and Dark types. In that regard, both the Ice and Fairy typings have a strong offensive presence in the meta. Alolan Ninetales can do incredible damage to the Dragon, Ground, Grass, Flying Fighting, and Dark type. That is a lot of types being covered.
It has a cheap energy expenditure and can counter Poison-type Pokémon, which Alolan Ninetales is vulnerable to due to its Fairy nature. With so many different moves, Alolan Ninetales is a popular PvP choice in both the Great and Ultra Leagues of Pokémon GO.
3. Kyurem

Kyurem is a Dragon / Ice Pokémon which is also a Legendary one introduced in Generation V. Kyurem is a Pokémon with indefinable but obviously dragon-like origins. Kyurem has a blue head and nose, yellow eyes with no pupils, pointed light bluish horns on its head, and a yellow crest on its skull.
Kyurem is a mascot for the games Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 in its two forms: Black and White and appropriately being featured to their colors. This is because Kyurem can undergo Absofusion that combines it with Reshiram for White form or Zekrom for Black for the price of removing the latter two.
In Pokémon GO, if you train Kyurem Dragon Breath and Draco Meteor, it makes an excellent dragon-type attacker in gyms and raids. It can do some damage in PvP with the same moveset, but it isn’t really worth investing in for PvP.
Kyurem is a beast in battle as a Legendary Dragon-type Pokémon. It’s also an Ice-type, which grants it access to the move Freeze Dry. This critical attack deals considerable ice damage while also being quite efficient against Water-types. That’s a terrific advantage to have because Ice normally has an advantage over Water-types.
Black and White Kyurem have better stats than the vanilla Kyurem. White Kyurem has a base special attack of 170 as well as enhanced defenses in both spd and def, although the hp stat remains the same in both forms of Kyurem itself. Black Kyurem also has improved resistance and a base assault attack of 170.
With the exception of their speed and hp stats, which are identical to regular Kyurem, both the White and the Black have superior stats to regular Kyurem.
4. Glaceon

Glaceon is one of the many evolutions of Eevee. Eevee was introduced in Generation I, but Glaceon debuted in Generation IV. Glaceon is a fox-like Pokémon with quadrupedal fur that can be frozen into spiky quills. Long, pointed ears, dark eyes, and a tiny nose characterize Glaceon. Its head is adorned with a teal crest with two dangling flaps that resemble hair or headgear. It also has two dark blue rhombus-shaped markings on its back, as well as the tip of its tail, feet, and flaps.
In Pokémon Sword and Shield, the beauty of Glaceon is that it can quickly switch into prevalent Pokémon in the meta, such as Toxapex and Quagsire, and take them out with a super-effective Freeze-Dry. It also boasts a fantastic 130 Sp. Atk, making its STAB ice moves extremely lethal.
Glaceon has the greatest Special Attack stat of any Ice-type in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, outperforming legendaries Articuno and Regice. Glaceon becomes the cutest complete monster Sinnoh has ever seen after combining an irresistible Blizzard with Hail.
5. Mamoswine

Mamoswine is a dual-type Ice / Ground Pokémon. Mamoswine is a gigantic, Pokémon that looks like a hybrid between a woolly mammoth and a hog. Its brown fur is extremely thick, allowing it can withstand brutal cold and defend itself from snow and ice. Its tusks are made of pure, solid ice and are smaller on a female Mamoswine than on a male.
Mamoswine is one of the strongest Ice-Type Pokémon in Pokémon GO, and it can be quite powerful in combat with the right moveset. The pairing of Ice and Ground allows Mamoswine to do at least neutral damage to most Pokémon. Unfortunately, this comes at the expense of a wide spectrum of vulnerabilities to Fighting, Steel, Fire, Water, and Grass. This means that Mamoswine players must use caution when determining the best moveset for their Twin Tusk Pokémon.
6. Weavile

Weavile is a Pokémon with a pale gray body that looks like a cross between a cat and a weasel. It has a brilliant red crown and collar with large feathers, as well as a single, thinner feather on each ear. It is introduced in Generation IV.
In Pokémon GO, Weavile has excellent offensive numbers that are complemented by strong moves in both types. As a result, it is a top Ice and Dark attacker. Few non-legendary Pokémon have this level of adaptability. A Weavile is like having two Pokémon in one if you have enough Technical Machines (TM).
In Pokémon Sword and Shield, Weavile is one of the fastest Pokémon, making it an excellent member of any lineups. Weavile can outspeed the vast majority of Pokémon in the game at base 125. Given that this Pokémon is Dark and Ice-type, Weavile is an excellent Pokémon to get before the endgame of Pokémon Sword and Shield.
7. Avalugg

Avalugg is an Ice-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VI. It has a regional form in Hisui which is dual-type to Rock. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the Hisuan Avalugg was one of the bosses.
Avalugg is a gigantic Pokémon that is almost completely covered in semi-transparent ice. Diamond-shaped, yellow eyes with purple sclerae can be seen through the ice on its head.
In Pokémon GO, Avalugg wins heavily against tough opponents like Giratina, Swampert, and Umbreon.
However, Avalugg is most effective in the Master League. As you may expect, its high numbers and Ice-type enable it to become a Dragon-slayer.
8. Vanilluxe

Vanilluxe is a two-headed Pokémon that is covered in swirls of white snow and looks like two scoops of ice cream in a waffle cone. It is the consequence of two Vanillish being entangled after melting throughout the day and freezing at night. It is introduced in Generation V.
In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Avalugg has excellent Defense and Attack numbers, as well as a movepool that includes Gyro Ball, Avalanche, Earthquake, Stone Edge, Crunch, and Roar. It possesses a strong ability that allows it to survive any highly effective attack at full health. Avalugg, on the other hand, has one of the lowest Special Defense stats ever, which implies that any Special Attack will kill it.
In Pokémon Black and White, Vanilluxe is the way to go because Vanilluxe if you are looking for an Ice-type Specials since its Special Attack centered and Ice Beam/Blizzard are Special based.
9. Glastrier

Glastrier is a Legendary white-coated horse Pokémon with light-blue ice coating sections of its body. It has three rows of ice spikes behind its neck and a single huge spike between its ears. It is introduced in Generation VIII.
Compared to Spectrier, Glastrier is unquestionably the superior Pokémon to choose from. Its Power, Bulk, and poor Speed make it ideal for Trick Room teams. That is not to imply that Spectrier is ineffective, as it possesses a high Speed and Special Attack.
In Pokémon Sword and Shield, Glastrier’s stats are excellent for a Trick Room Pokémon. It has a base stat line of 100/145/130/65/110/30. That’s a lot of weight and attack. There aren’t many slower threats. Ice is also an excellent type to have on your squad now that Landorus has returned.
10. Walrein

Walrein is a hunky Pokémon resembling a walrus with blubber beneath its skin. It’s mostly blue, with delicate white rings around its neck and lines on its fan-shaped tail-fin. Its upper jaw has two long, ivory tusks. It has a round snout, golden eyes, and huge white fur tufts around its face and neck. Instead of feet, its four small legs have lengthy flippers. It is a Generation III Pokémon.
In Pokémon GO, Walrein is an extremely tanky/hardy ice type that works well against common Dragon + Flying types (against which it inflicts 2X Super Effective damage). Its key selling point is its low cost. Spheal is abundant in many biomes, and it’s rather easy to get a weather-boosted specimen or two and evolve until you have a Frost Breath + Blizzard Walrein. So it’s a dirt-cheap ice counter (no dust or TMs needed, perhaps).
11. Lapras

Lapras is one of the more iconic Pokémon being one of the OG Pokémon. It is also very present in several games being used as means of transportation, as well as in anime and movies. Lapras is a plesiosaur-like sea reptilian Pokémon that resembles the Lochness Monster. It has a cream-colored underbelly and a blue hide with darker blue markings. It has huge brown eyes, a small horn on its brow, and curled ears.
Lapras is a great pick in Pokémon GO matches and a terrible adversary for that matter. Lapras is a bulky option in Pokémon GO’s Great and Ultra Leagues, thanks to its moveset and high HP numbers.
In Pokémon FireRed, Lapras would be the best choice for a tanker Pokémon with a higher Special Attack. Its moveset allows it to take more hits while still dealing significantly more damage.
12. Eiscue

Eiscue is a penguin-like Pokémon that has a giant ice cube on its head. This ice cube is a pale blue with white flecks visible on its surface. This is one of the newer Pokémon introduced in Generation VIII.
In Pokémon Sword and Shield, Eiscue may be formidable against Physical attackers without having to worry about the sort of move the opponent will employ by taking one Physical blow with little damage and then transitioning into its rapid Noice Face form to outspeed them. This strange penguin is indeed fantastic.
He has the ability to Belly Drum in the face of any Physical threat. When combined with the Dynamax Ice move, it’s comically overpowered because it refreshes your ability.
13. Regice

Regice is a big, blue Pokémon made entirely of a block of ice. Its body is made up of angular crystal-like formations, and its face features an interesting design made up of seven yellow dots in the shape of a cross.
It was introduced in Generation III.
Because of Regice in Pokémon GO access to Rock Polish and solid coverage moves, as well as the tier’s fairly restricted supply of Ice-resistant Pokémon, Regice is a dangerous sweeper. Its incredible special bulk gives it a decent offensive counter to Pokémon like Oricorio-E and Rotom-F.
In mainline Pokémon games, Regice has a fantastic Special Attack stat and an outrageously high Special Defense stat. Its special movepool may not be as stunning as Regirock’s Physical movepool, but it has some potential. To begin with, Regice isn’t particularly fast, so it’s possible to build up with Rock Polish first and then blast the opponent Pokémon with moves like Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Focus Blast, Flash Cannon, Ancient Power, and Signal Beam.
14. Mr. Rime

Mr. Rime is a humanoid bipedal Pokémon. It has growths resembling clown hair, but they are now black rather than blue, and they cover the top of its head, resembling a bowler hat. It is one of the newer Pokémon introduced in Generation VIII.
Mr. Rime is on this list because of its incredible design alone. Mr. Rime’s defensive typing is terrible, with a whopping six weaknesses, including the exceedingly common Fire, Dark, Rock, and Steel. While they have access to typically potent support moves like Dual Screens, Encore, Fake Out, TR, and Icy Wind, among others, one may be concerned that their utility outweighs their vulnerability.
Nevertheless, in Pokémon Sword and Shield, Mr. Rime’s Screen Cleaner, its distinctive ability, eliminates enemy dual screens from hyper offensive teams, making it a solid revenge killer versus hyper offense teams, scooping up KOs that other revenge killers like Mimikyu would struggle with, such as Vs. High HP Gyarados.
15. Cloyster

Cloyster is a Pokémon that is a black bivalve mollusk. It is protected by a light-gray shell that is encompassed by a second jagged, blue-violet shell coating. It has one barb-like spike extending from above its head, and its outer shell is covered in conical horns.
In Pokémon Sword and Shield, Cloyster can sweep better than a wall. He has an incredible Defense stat, although his initial HP and Special Defense are just 50 and 45, respectively. When a Special Attacker brushes against it, Cloyster should easily be defeated.
Cloysters, however, are extremely lethal with Shell Smash and the Skill Link ability. Trainers should max out its Attack and Speed EVs, and if fighting other trainers, Focus Sash is a great item to use. The following moveset is certainly recommended: Shell Smash, Icicle Spear, Pin Missile and Rock Blast.
16. Abomasnow

Abomasnow is a unique Grass / Ice dual-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IV. Abomasnow is a big, bipedal Pokémon with shaggy white fur. It has pale purple eyes, bushy brows, and long fur strands concealing its mouth. Two tufts of longer fur grow on both its back and chest, with the female’s chest fur being longer.
In Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Abomasnow is a terrifying Ice-type Pokémon. It does have one flaw, however, and it is a serious one. It is four times weaker than Fire-type attacks when it has dual Grass typing. Its base stats are fairly balanced, but nothing to write home about.
In Pokémon Pearl, Abomasnow is a Pokémon of choice because of its strengths against the Elite Four. Abomasnow will annihilate the first two Elite Four, and it can compete with Flint’s Drifblim. The fourth won’t cause too much issue for Abomasnow, and Champion Cynthia’s Garchomp and Roserade don’t like Ice techniques.
17. Froslass

Froslass is an anthropomorphic Pokémon with a kimono-like hollow torso. It has a crimson ring around its waist, similar to an Obi. It floats in the air like its counterpart, Glalie, because it lacks feet. It is an Ice/Ghost Pokémon that debuted in Generation IV. When exposed to a Dawn Stone, it transforms from a female Snorunt. It is one of Snorunt’s last forms, along with Glalie.
Froslass, a unique Ice/Ghost-type, is an excellent choice for trainers looking for something different from their Ice-type. Froslass is immune to Normal and Fighting attacks, as well as Poison, Bug, and Ice.
In Pokémon GO, Froslass is a popular Ice-type selection in Pokémon GO, especially in Great League PvP. When matched up against Dragon, Ground, Grass, or Flying-type Pokémon, Froslass can be far more effective than many Ice-type Pokémon.
18. Snom

Snom is a tiny Pokémon larva. A translucent shell of frosty spikes covers the majority of its spherical white body. It has two black eyes and round mouthparts on its exposed head. It has four small legs underneath its body. It belongs to Generation VIII of Pokémon. It is dual-type with Bug.
Snom is a common Ice/Bug-type Pokémon in Pokémon Sword and Shield. It is renowned for being a slow, weak, and limited Pokémon with only two moves. With Snom being a weak Pokémon by all accounts, why should anyone bother catching it? Because Snom’s evolution, Frosmoth, is incredible.
19. Frosmoth

Snom is only the introductory Pokémon for Frosmoth, hence, it is included in this list. Frosmoth is a white, moth-like Pokémon with a spherical body and a thicker upper portion that resembles a ruff. It has dark blue eyes with long lashes. It has the same typing as Snom.
In Pokémon Sword and Shield, Frosmoth’s Ice Scale allows him to readily repel Special Attacks. However, its low defense and HP, combined with a slew of flaws, make it vulnerable to strong Physical Attackers. Frosmoth is also 4x vulnerable to Rock-type and Fire-type attacks, so attempt to employ them against it.
20. Amaura

Amaura is a sauropod-like Pokémon. It has a bright blue body and a white underbelly. It has a long neck, stubby tail, and a single white claw on each hind foot. It is a Rock / Ice type combo introduced in Generation VI.
In Pokémon GO, Despite their fearsome defensive type, Amaura has such a strong PvP moveset that it appears to be capable of making at least a minor dent in PvP. It is at the very least worth picking up for limited/cup meta play.
