Are you finally done with those lame and boring default Roblox skins? Ready to make your own awesome Roblox attire? We’ve got the ultimate guide to creating custom Roblox skins that will make you the envy of all your friends. No need to be a graphic design guru or shell out big bucks – we’ll show you how to create a custom Roblox skins step-by-step
Understanding the Roblox Skin System
Before we start getting our hands dirty, let’s take a look at how the skin system works in Roblox and what we need to get going.
Somewhat like Minecraft, the Roblox skin system also uses templates that then wrap over your character’s figure. This brings us to the two figures used in the game, the R6 and the R15. The number signifies the number of body parts, and you will need to test your skin on these figures to ensure they work fine on whichever one you’re using.
There are a total of 3 templates that you can use. The first one isn’t really a template, but it’s used to make T-shirts and is a very simple process. All you need to do is upload a square image that becomes the front of your shirt. The remaining 2 templates are for the shirt and pants, as shown above.
Step 1: Getting the Templates
To download the templates, head on over to the Roblox Create page. Then click on the Documentation button in the top panel and look for “Avatar” in the multiple options available on the left side. Click on it, and from the sub-options, click on “Accessories”, “Layered Clothing”, and finally, “Classic Clothing”. This is what it should look like.
Scroll down till you find the templates. Right-click on whichever one you want to make and download it as a PNG(p.s don’t download the templates above, the aspect ratio is altered).
Click here to download the template.
You can find the sizes for each part in the following table:
Shape | Pixel Size (width x height) | Clothing Parts |
Large square | 128 x 128 | Front and Back |
Tall rectangle | 64 x 128 | Side of torso (R,L) Side of arms and legs (L,B,R,F) |
Wide rectangle | 128 x 64 | Up and Down |
Small square | 64 x 64 | Top and bottom of arms and legs (U,D) |
Step 2: Designing
Now comes the fun part! There are tons of ways you can go about this. Basically, any photo-editing software that can put images on top of each other can work. We recommend using Canva as it’s easy to use and free. If you know how to use Adobe Photoshop, then fire it up.
Upload the template to Canva or load it into Photoshop. Then upload the image you want on your shirt, in our case, a cat! Resize the image to fit whichever part of the shirt you want the image on, like the chest, side, back, or sleeves. Like so:
Once you’re done filling out the shirt, it should look something like this. We didn’t fill in the sleeves. Be sure to not leave any spaces between the boxes.
Step 3: Uploading
Once you’re done filling ou t the template, navigate to the creator dashboard, it should be on the left side of the documentations tab from where we downloaded the templates. Then click on the Avatar Items tab to get the upload Asset option.
Upload your template here. You will be asked to add a name and a description for your clothing but don’t worry its pre-filled. Now Roblox asks you to pay 10 Robux to upload your skin on the marketplace and also set a price for it so you can earn Robux if someone buys it. After it is uploaded, you can preview it in the Avatar menu on Roblox and see how it works!
Congratulations you finally made custom Roblox skins. You can now use it in-game or make a bunch of more cool skins and put them up on the market place for the whole community to enjoy. We hope our guide was helpful and easy to follow. Until next time!
