Fallout 4 was the fourth main Fallout single player game released on the PS4 / Xbox One generation from Bethesda released in 2015.

In the game you play the role of a character which is placed in stasis in Vault 111, an underground nuclear bunker.  As you wake, you witness the kidnapping of your son and the murder of your spouse and so set out on a quest across the post apocalyptic world to recover him.

Fallout 4 is a typical open world action RPG  in which the player takes on adventures and quests and are able to develop your character by leveling up, helping out different factions and crafting weapons etc.

    Fallout: New Vegas

Starting things off, we have Fallout New Vegas, which is a title made by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Bethesda Softworks back in 2010. This action RPG is a spin-off title of the Fallout franchise and is widely considered to be one if not the best RPG ever made.

The game is set in the Mojave Desert, in a town called New Vegas, that was created by the remnants of society after the nukes fell and destroyed a wide majority of the population. The player takes control of a character known as the courier who was tasked with delivering a special casino chip.

However, on his delivery route, he gets ambushed, shot in the head, and buried in the desert. The courier miraculously survives, and it is then up to the player to find those who ambushed him and uncover the mystery behind the casino chip.

Fallout New Vegas offers a plethora of roleplaying options, branching stories, multiple factions, and a vast world to explore.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition takes players on a journey through the freezing mountainous province of Skyrim.

They’ll be assuming the role of the Dragonborn, a highly-customizable character on a mission — defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon of monstrous proportions, or watch everything they care about slip away into the past.

The set-up is familiar — gamers start with very little, and gradually work to improve their skills, weapons, and armor, as they wonder through a vast open world populated by fascinating NPCs who will send them off on quest after quest.

Players are able to switch between first- and third-person PoVs and will have to take their health, magicka, and stamina into account as they decide whether they’re ready for the next quest.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition has long been one of the most popular action-adventure RPGs around, and if you’ve never played it before, never doubt that this game has stood the test of time and is just as good today as it was when it first came out.

Players take the role of one of the members of Constellation, an organization tasked with finding rare artifacts located across the galaxy.

We don’t know much about Starfield yet, however, right off the bat we can see both Starfield and Fallout share a theme of exploration, and since Starfield is a Bethesda RPG, we can expect to come across multiple factions, interesting storylines, dialogue choices, and multiple mysterious planets to explore.

As a true outlaw, though, you won’t always focus on the mission — Red Dead Redemption 2 allows you to explore a vast open world and fight the enemies that will definitely cross your path on the way.

    9. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of those must-play games. First published in 2015, it takes the player on a journey through the fresh, and yet somehow familiar, world of Slavic mythology.

You don’t have to have watched the show, or read any of the books, to appreciate the beauty of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

You will controlling the character of the Witcher, Geralt of Rivia. He’s in search of his adopted daughter, but in a vast open world dominated by creatures natural and supernatural, it won’t take long for trouble to find him.

Players won’t just have creatures like elves, monsters, and dwarves to contend with, but also several distinct dimensions.

There’s as much combat as you want. The Witcher can make his way through all the world’s dimensions by walking, climbing, rolling, and swimming (for starters), and he’s also got a full spectrum of weapons at his disposal, with the best choices depending on whether the opponent is human… or something else.

The story-driven dialogue tree found in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and its advanced AI, is what makes the RPG so hard quit playing, though.

    13. The Outer Worlds (2019)

    The Outer Worlds
    The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds is by far the game with the most convincing humor on our list. This gem of a game takes place in the distant future of the year 2355, in the Halcyon System.

You find yourself in hibernation, aboard a lost colonist ship at the edge of the galaxy. You awake after however many decades in the face of a world that lives and breathes beneath the feet of corporatism, capitalism, and conspiracies.

But don’t let its dystopian setting fool you! The Outer Worlds’s humor lives in the hearts of its characters. The NPCs of this world are always ready to have you giggle in the midst of their conversations. The bits of sarcasm and irony are actually very inspiring because of the circumstances that these characters live in and the way they choose to spread joy as opposed to their oppressors.

Check out The Outer Worlds if you’re looking for a game like Fallout. This first-person RPG’s world is full of humor, plotting, refreshing combat, and quite the player-driven narrative.
