Flying-Type Pokemon are able to fly or levitate and usually have bird-like characteristics. They usually have the flying ability as a secondary, mostly pared with normal. From Charizard to Pidgeot they bring speed and agility to a trainers arsenal. If you are interested in flying abilities, read on as we have hand-picked our top 20 flying type pokemon.
1. Moltres

Moltres, a Fire/Flying type Pokémon and one of the Kanto Legendary Birds. Moltres is initially introduced in Generation I. Moltres is a big, golden-colored bird Pokémon. It has a billowing tail and a long, flowing head crest formed of reddish-orange and yellow flames. Furthermore, its wings are covered in fiery plumage. It has a long, slender neck, a pointed brown beak, and small triangular eyes. It has three forward-facing toes and one backward-facing toe on its tiny, brown legs. Its talons are short.
Moltres is a very good attacker with 125 Special Attack and 100 Attack and a variety of moves ideal for quickly killing opponents, such as its abilities Schorching Sands and Sky Attack.
Moltres’ dual Fire and Flying types make it resistant to Fire, Grass, Ice, Steel, and Bug attacks, but it is vulnerable to Water, Electric, and Rock moves. Moltres’ Roost ability, fortunately, allows it to heal itself and remove hazards from the field.
In Pokémon GO, Moltres has been one of the best Pokémon in-game. In PvE raids, it is still one of the greatest Fire-type attackers. With the correct techniques in its moveset, it may even perform magnificently in Ultra and Master League PvP. Its strong maximum attack stat assures that it will do adequate damage to its enemies as long as they aren’t immune to Fire and Flying-type attacks. As a result, Moltres is a cant-miss prospect.
2. Rayquaza

Rayquaza is a Generation III Legendary Pokémon. It is a Dragon / Flying dual-type which makes it very powerful. Rayquaza is the game mascot of Pokémon Emerald, and he appears on the game’s box art. Rayquaza is a big, green, serpentine Pokémon with the appearance of a missile. It features red-tipped, rudder-like wings on its shoulders and down its torso, as well as fins with a similar pattern on the tip of its tail. Rayquaza’s body is covered with yellow ring-like symbols, with an additional yellow ring on top of its head. Rayquaza has two limbs with three-clawed hands, as well as two long, flat horn-like structures on its head and two shorter horns along its jawline. It has small yellow eyes with black pupils, pink gums, and two distinct fangs in its upper jaw.
In Pokémon GO, Rayquaza is a DPS monster, one of the most powerful legendaries, with a shattered mega evolution and a badass attitude that can even pin Groudon, Kyogre, and Deoxys. This dragon has always been one of the most sought-after Pokémon in Pokémon Go. Its damaging potential is off the charts, but if there was a flaw in its scaly armor, it was that Rayquaza wasn’t particularly useful in PvP. Its stats qualified it to compete in the Master League meta. Rayquaza was unable to rampage across the Master League due to its reasonable size and, more crucially, an unimpressive moveset that just could not make the cut in PvP.
In Pokémon Emerald, Raquaza was designed to be stronger than Kyogre and Groudon. That is, statistically, pretty accurate. Rayquaza possesses Groudon’s Attack stat, Kyogre’s Special Attack stat (150 for both), and the same amount of Speed. It basically combines the best parts of both Pokémon into one enormous machine.
3. Staraptor

Staraptor is a plain-looking Normal / Flying Pokémon. It is introduced in Generation IV. Staraptor is an avian Pokémon that looks like a big bird of prey. It features little red eyes as well as a narrow yellow beak with a black tip. The male has a larger circular white patch on its forehead than the female. Larger white patterns cover the front of its throat and chest, which are separated by a black ruff that encircles its shoulders.
In Pokémon GO, in terms of stats, Staraptor is arguably the best regional bird in the game, with the same Attack stat as Machamp. It also has a great Flying Type moveset to add to its power, making it an excellent early-game investment.
In Pokemon Sword and Shield, specifically with The Isle of Armor DLC, Staraptor has a high Attack, powerful recoil moves (with the Reckless Ability to augment them even more), and handy gimmicks like Final Gambit making Staraptor a very versatile Pokémon worthy of inclusion in any team composition.
4. Honchkrow

Honchckrow is a Generation IV Pokémon with Dark and Flying dual-typing. Honchkrow is a dark-blue avian Pokémon with plumage that mimics a person dressed in formal wear, specifically a mafia boss. It features a big feather crest that looks like a fedora hat with spikes coming from the back.
In Pokémon GO, Honchkrow’s Dark-type DPS is surprisingly strong considering how common its pre-evolution is, while its Flying-type performance is simply outstanding, making it a top attacker when Flying is the best type to use. It’s a good low-cost solution for filling raid team vacancies.
In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Honchkrow is more of a situational Pokemon. Because it is a Dark / Flying-type, it is immune to Ground and Psychic attacks, but it has a few additional flaws as a result. Its high offensive stats allow it to deal a significant amount of damage, but depending on the opposition, it can be a tad frail. When up against Ghost, Ground, Psychic, or other Dark types, this shouldn’t be a problem. Honchkrow works best with a lonely or naughty nature.
5. Yveltal

Yveltal is a Generation VI Legendary Pokémon with Dark / Flying as its typing. Yveltal is a huge Pokémon with avian and draconic characteristics. The back of its body is black, with white dots on the wings and back; the front, head, and neck are brilliant red, with branching, black lines running through them.
In Pokemon GO, Yveltal is widely regarded as the best Dark-type Pokémon in the Master League meta, having defeated some of the most popular (and powerful) opponents such as Mewtwo, Dialga, Giratina, and Metagross. Its Flying typing allows it to cover other weaknesses or further increase its effectiveness in what already its Dark typing is providing.
Yveltal is a Pokemon Shield exclusive. Its Dark/Flying type is by far the finest Max Airstream user in the format, increasing team speed while giving out significant STAB damage.
When its Dynamax has worn out, it can continue to use its characteristic move Oblivion Wing to keep itself healthy while also reducing the opponent’s chances of winning.
When Yveltal is present on the field, she has the ability of Dark Aura, which increases the power of all Dark-type techniques. This allows not just Yveltal to deliver large levels of damage with its STAB Dark-type attacks, but also other strong Dark-type Pokémon that are currently rampant, such as Incineroar and Grimmsnarl.
6. Unfezant

Unfezant is a Generation V Normal / Flying Pokémon. Unfezant is a Pokémon that looks like a game bird. It’s mostly dark gray with lighter gray highlights.
In Pokemon GO, It’s actually a very strong Flying attacker, with DPS comparable to flying Rayquaza due to a strong moveset. It will be outclassed by other Pokemon later on, but it can be useful in Grass or Fighting-type raids in particular.
7. Tornadus

Tornadus is a Legendary Pokémon. This is the first monotype of Flying Pokemon making this list. It is introduced in Generation V. It has two forms: Incarnate Forme and Therian Forme.
The Incarnate Forme Tornadus is a genie-like green, muscular humanoid Pokémon. There is no female counterpart to this species. Meanwhile, the Therian Forme Tornadus, Tornadus is a huge, green, bipedal, long-necked, birdlike Pokémon with a long neck. It no longer has discernible ears, and the horns on its forehead have thinned and become crest-like.
Tornadus has a base Attack Stat of 115, which is nearly as high as its Special Attack but still among the strongest in the tier. As a result, this set not only has a high surprise value, but it also has the potential to be a fatal physical attacker, as it is one of the few Pokemon that has a good physical Flying STAB.
In Pokémon GO, Tornadus Therian Form is quite powerful, so bring the appropriate Pokémon and exploit its vulnerabilities. Once captured, it can be useful in battle, however, it isn’t the strongest Flying-type around on its own. Its potential will be maximized if it is equipped with the best movements.
8. Toucannon

Toucannon is one of the newer Flying Pokémon as it debuted in Generation VII. It has Normal / Flying dual-typing. Toucannon is a fowl Pokémon with black feathers and a prominent beak like that of a toucan, with the upper section larger than the lower part, or the mandible. Its beak contains gases that can ignite and shoot seeds with enough energy to crush boulders.
9. Togekiss

Togekiss is an indisputable PVP powerhouse in Pokémon GO, and is a species that every player would desire on their team for both GO Battle League and raids.
In Pokémon GO, Togekiss is a very valuable Fairy/Flying-type, but in order to be most effective, players must first learn the Pocket Monster’s greatest moveset.
The Pokémon has great stats all throughout, with 225 in Attack, 198 in Stamina, and 217 in Defense.
Togekiss’ bread and butter in Pokémon Sword and Shield is the redirection move Follow Me. There are only a few other redirectors in the game, with Togekiss being the tankiest.
Togekiss can also be employed as an all-out damage dealer, support, or a combination of the two.
10. Noivern

Noivern is a Flying-type Pokémon that has dual-typing with Dragon. It is introduced in Generation VI. It evolves from Noibat.
Noivern is a draconic Pokémon that looks like a bat. Its main color is black, with a purple underside and greenish-blue wing membranes. It has a purple lower jaw, a red V-shaped nose, two fang-like projections on its upper lip, yellow eyes, and a greenish-turquoise tint between its eyes and nose. Its enormous, teardrop-shaped ears have blue-green and black inside rings that resemble loudspeakers.
In Pokémon GO, Noivern is a good Pokémon to have. It’s not the most obvious pick from the last wave of Kalos area Pokémon, but it’s adequate. Make sure it learns Air Slash for rapid moves and Psychic, Hurricane, or Draco Meteor for charge moves.
11. Yanmega

Yanmega is a Generation IV Pokémon. It is Bug / Flying dual type. Yanmega is a huge, dark green dragonfly. Its enormous crimson eyes are framed by black lines that form a sideways “T” shape. Next to its little mouth, it bears two huge, white fangs or mandibles.
In Pokémon GO, Yanmega is an excellent pick for a Bug-type attacker in PvE, but she does not bug many opponents in PvP. The fact that it has a very high ATK stat lessens its total size, but its Bug/Flying type offers it more vulnerabilities than resistances.
12. Pidgeot

Pidgeot is one of the first Pokémon, arriving with the rest of the originals in Generation I. It is a Normal / Flying dual-type. Pidgeot is a Pokémon that has huge wings, keen claws, and a short, hooked beak. It has a glossy brown plumage with cream-colored underparts and flying feathers. It has a beautiful crest on its head that is nearly as long as its body.
In the Pokémon Let’s Go series, this Normal/Flying type Pokémon evolves from Pidgey at level 16 and is an excellent pick for your first few gym badges. Sand Attack is quite powerful and can carry battles on its alone, so don’t make your Pidgeotto forget it.
13. Talonflame

Talonflame is a Generation VI Pokemon. It is a dual-type Fire and Flying. Talonflame is an avian Pokémon that looks like a falcon. Its head, wings, and most of its chest and back are covered in red-orange plumage that tapers off into a flame pattern.
In Pokémon GO, Because of its super quick move, Incinerate, Talonflame is the strongest fire-type Pokémon in Ultra League. It is one of the greatest Pokémon to start with, only switching out if it faces a bad matchup. Furthermore, the fact that it can reach Level 50 while still being qualified for Ultra League puts it head and shoulders above the rest of the meta.
The problem is that it is notably weak against other meta-relevant Pokémon like Swampert and loses to the vast majority of Pokémon such as Giratina and Registeel.
With so many Grass-types coming in to beat Swampert, Talonflame’s fire-typing only improves.
14. Swellow

Swellow is a Normal / Flying Generation III Pokémon. Swellow is a huge dark-blue bird with scarlet breasts and a face. A feather crest stretches back from the top of its head.
The red patterns on its head and chest are separated by a blue stripe, and it has a white underbelly.
In Pokémon GO, Swellow is one of the numerous Flying-types in Great League, although he doesn’t shine as brightly as other of the more popular picks due to relatively low bulk and a lack of coverage options.
Swellow is one of the fastest non-legendary Pokémon in Ruby and Sapphire games. It also has Physical sweeping moves in Facade, Aerial Ace, Endeavor, and Return. However, it is in Diamond and Pearl that Swellow flew into the skies with U-turn, Toxic Orb, and Brave Bird. When combined with Guts and Facade, this gave Swellow attacking power.
15. Scyther

Scyther can evolve into two different Pokemon depending on which item is used: Scizor, a Bug/Steel Pokémon from generation two, and Kleavor, a Pokémon that first appears in generation eight, Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Scyther, even without evolving, is a highly powerful Pokémon with a slew of powerful moves including Fury Cutter, X-Scissor, and Air Slash.
16. Oricorio

Oricorio is a pure Flying-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VII. Oricorio is an avian Pokémon that can transform into four distinct forms. The shape it assumes is determined by the type of nectar it drinks. The beaks of all forms are pale pink, the legs are slender, and the eyes are dark with white pupils. The feet feature three front toes and one back toe, and the beak slopes downward.
In Pokémon Sun and Moon games, Oricorio has well-rounded stats, particularly in-game.
It moves quickly and has a good amount of mass. Its Special Attack is excellent in its attack.
Oricorio is worthwhile to use if you require Flying-type coverage over Fire /Electric/ Psychic / Ghost coverage. You can adjust Oricorio’s type to suit your needs by using Nectar from various islands. It is fast and strong, but its movepool is terrible.
17. Gliscor

Gliscor is a Generation IV Ground / Flying Pokémon, this typing is indeed oxymoronic. Gliscor is a giant vampire bat-like Pokémon that is mostly blue-purple.
In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, Gliscor’s Attack and Speed are both adequate. Strong enough to kill things, and it can still learn Swords Dance. Poison Heal is more powerful than you realize, as it also prevents Gliscor from suffering from a status illness that is genuinely a problem. Gliscor is, without a doubt, one of the best Pokemon in the game in terms of competitiveness.
18. Noctowl

Noctol is a Generation II Normal / Flying Pokémon that looks like an owl.
When compared to other, more physically oriented birds in Pokémon X and Y, Noctowl has outstanding defensive stats as well as a respectable Special Attack. Noctowl is a fast defensive Pokémon that is rarely utilized.
19. Skarmory

Skarmory is a Steel / Flying Pokémon introduced in Generation II. Skarmory is a silver-gray avian Pokémon with a long, metallic blue neck, legs, and tail. It has brilliant eyes, a triangular crest on its head, and a pointed beak with several teeth.
Skarmory is a Great League PvP staple in Pokémon GO, with great bulk, good typing, and a formidable moveset. It’s well-known in the meta as a fantastic flier, and it’s almost always a strong pick due to its 10 resistances and excellent meta performance.
20. Altaria
