1. Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen

Dragon’s Dogma is one the greatest RPGs out there in terms of its action-packed gameplay. The gameplay is simply still unmatched in the genre after all these years. Even Hogwarts Legacy itself is noticeably inferior in comparison while it is one of the better playing action-RPGs out there. Dragon’s Dogma is this good.
The combat in Dragon’s Dogma is fast-paced and strategic, requiring you to carefully plan your attacks and defense against a variety of challenging foes. The ability to climb and climb onto larger enemies, allowing you to attack their weak points, adds a level of depth to the combat that is unparalleled. The pawn system is also revolutionary, allowing you to customize your party and strategize with your companions in ways that other RPGs simply cannot match.
One of the standout features of Dragon’s Dogma is its innovative pawn system, which adds an extra layer of strategy to the gameplay. Pawns are AI-controlled companions that can be recruited and customized to suit your playstyle. They can be assigned various roles, such as fighter, mage, or healer, and can be trained and equipped with gear to make them more effective in combat. What makes the pawn system so unique is that you can also share your customized pawn with other players online, and borrow theirs in return. This adds an element of social interaction to the game.
While Dragon’s Dogma is an action RPG with a focus on exploration and combat, Hogwarts Legacy is set in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, where players can explore Hogwarts and learn magic. While both games have RPG elements, they cater to different audiences with the former gathering around more of the hardcore RPG fans and the latter getting the attention of those who are not into RPGs themselves but are fans of J.K. Rowling’s incredibly popular books.

Outside of combat, there are some exploration elements to the game, but it’s mostly linear with some divergent paths that lead to cosmetic bonus items. There are some free moments to check in with your teammates and listen to some ’80s tunes on your ship, the Milano, but the game is mostly focused on the story and the characters. You can make choices throughout the game that affect the story’s direction, and it’s always interesting to see how your decisions play out later on.

5. Dragon Age: Inquisition

Dragon Age: Inquisition is a standout RPG released in 2014, alongside other notable titles such as Dark Souls 2. The game is developed by BioWare, who redeemed themselves after a weaker second installment in the Dragon Age series.
While the game’s story is not particularly original, the execution and presentation are praiseworthy. As the founder of the titular Inquisition, players must strengthen our organization, gain powerful allies, and achieve sufficient influence before embarking on the ultimate battle. Players achieve these goals by completing quests, managing our army and diplomacy, and ensuring adequate supplies. The game developers have done an outstanding job of creating a sense of belonging to a larger organization, as only through their actions can players affect the fate of the world. This is much more believable than the story of a lone hero who can defeat even the most powerful rulers.
The game’s dialogue also plays significant role-playing. All dialogues are dubbed, and almost all are well-written. Although there are sometimes strangely played lines, there are surprisingly few, given the immense amount of material. The game also reintroduces the dialogue wheel initiated in the first Mass Effect game, but it has been significantly changed since the days of Dragon Age II.
The artificial delineation into good, bad, and “funny” answers is gone, and instead, the responses are marked with icons that allow us to determine the emotions that accompany a particular sentence. This makes it easier to make the right choice and reduces the chance of our hero saying something players didn’t expect.
However, it is surprising that the ability to play the role of an anti-hero has disappeared. This time, the narrative always strives for some kind of good, but it is up to us to decide what we deem fair or honorable. Players can be merciful leader who acquits a prisoner held in a dungeon or sentence the unfortunate person to a quick death. This is a step in the right direction because the well-known bad guy issues from previous installments always sounded artificial and were unconvincing.

7. Fable: The Lost Chapters

Fable: The Lost Chapters, an extended version of the 2004 Xbox game, Fable. It’s described as a “Director’s Cut” that features more quests, weapons, and choices, while still maintaining the same world and gameplay as the original.
The game is an action RPG that allows the player to choose from three main skill sets – melee, ranged, and magical – to defeat enemies. Melee combat leaves permanent scars, while ranged combat has been improved with increased damage levels for bows and crossbows. The game is generally easy, with potions and resurrection phials readily available, but players can increase the difficulty by boasting or by trying to maintain a high combat multiplier.
Experience points can be earned in four types – strength, skill, will, and general – which correspond to different skill sets and can be used to increase parameters within those skill sets. The environment of the game is described as the main attraction, with Albion being a living and breathing continent full of interesting characters and places to explore. The game’s morality system is ultimately superficial, with most players finding it easy to switch between good and evil as necessary. Well, at least, there is a choice, unlike Hogwart’s Legacy which is more on the good side.

There is a deep sense of wonder and excitement whenever you happen upon a cave mouth on some out-of-the-way shoreline that leads to a warren of trinkets. Gothic 3 is an open-world action role-playing game developed by Piranha Bytes and published by JoWooD Productions. The game takes place in a fantasy world and puts the player in the role of a hero who must help various factions in their struggles against each other and against an invading orc army.
While Gothic 3 has a large and ambitious world with plenty of quests and factions to interact with, it suffers from numerous technical issues, such as frequent bugs, glitches, and poor optimization, just as what you expect from a Eurojank. The combat system also feels clunky and unresponsive at times, and the AI of both enemies and allies can be frustratingly inconsistent.
