What exactly is the Sandbox? Sandbox is a virtual world that runs on the Ethereum blockchain. It is a game, and at the same time, a platform for game developers and enthusiasts.

People can own a portion of the Sandbox’s finite virtual land, allowing them to monetize their game, items, characters, and game experience.

Now, how is Sandbox a “Metaverse“? Well, the Sandbox isn’t just your typical game. It is a game that is divided by LANDS that can be utilized to hold special events, virtual concerts, an entire game experience, and so much more.

Think of it as an alternative universe where the whole world is divided by continents and countries that have their own culture, law, economy, and unique differences. Each LAND is independent, but trades and transactions are possible between them.

Much like how our world works. Everything that you can see inside this Metaverse can be bought and sold as a Non-fungible token (NFT). In a nutshell, it is a game where everyone can play, socialize, build, earn, and explore.

    The SAND Token

In layman’s terms, the Sand token is the Sandbox’s in-game currency that also functions as a utility token. It’s formally known as $SAND, and you’ll need it to buy LANDs, NFTs, and other assets inside the game.

The Sand token is also used for governance, allowing players that own the Sand token the right to vote for future decisions and developments inside the game. You can acquire Sand tokens by purchasing them using cryptos, real-life money, and as a reward through in-game quests and achievements.

If you are looking to invest in the SAND token, read our full guide on how to do it here.

How Can Players Earn in the Sandbox?

There are multiple ways to earn inside the Sandbox Metaverse. As mentioned above, the in-game currency is called $SAND, which costs around $6 per token as of writing this.

Selling NFTs is one of the easiest and most common ways of earning $SAND. The creation of NFTs within the game is made possible by using a software called VoxEdit, which can then be imported into the marketplace, where players buy, sell, and trade their assets.

Another way of earning $SAND is by Monetizing their lands. This topic on its own deserves its article, but allow me to summarize things and give you a clear idea. LAND owners can earn money by monetizing the in-game experience that they’ve created using a tool or software within the game called Game Maker.

They can also charge fees per ticket or entrance, and hold live events and virtual concerts with popular celebrities! LAND owners also have the option to rent a piece of land that they own, like how real estate works. Not to mention that players can also earn passive income by staking their Sand tokens. Pretty neat, huh.

The Sandbox Metaverse’s Popularity Spreads Like WildFire!

Several major brands and companies like Atari, Rollercoaster Tycoon, The Smurfs, and Binance saw the potential of this game and partnered up with Sandbox. You’ll see their lands scattered across the Sandbox Metaverse. Even the famous American rapper, Snoop Dogg, bought land for himself!

A lot of other huge companies invested in it as well, like Softbank, a Japanese company and one of the biggest companies in the world. Investing $93 million into the game, believing that it would be the new rising platform to unlock new economic opportunities for the future!
