Hogwarts Legacy has taken the Internet by storm recently, with many Potterheads flocking to the game to experience Hogwarts and the magical world of Harry Potter. While the game has all the magical staples from canonical spells and rich history, fans have been most impressed by the inclusion of the magical beasts from Harry Potter.
If you’re looking to collect (and breed) all the magical Beasts Hogwarts Legacy has to offer, then you’re in the right place! As such, let’s channel our inner Newt Scamander and explore these Fantastic Beasts!
All Magical Beast Locations
In total, there are 13 Magical Beasts that you can find, tame, and breed in Hogwarts Legacy. Some of these Beasts are time-gated or quest-gated, meaning you cannot acquire them unless specific conditions are met.
Furthermore, to even be able to collect Beasts, you need the Nab-sack. This is acquired upon completing the Quest “The Elf, the Nab-sack, and the Loom” in the main storyline. You can initiate this Quest from Deek, who’s the house-elf. As such, you must complete this Quest to tame any Beasts at all.
Below, we’ve compiled a comprehensive list of all the Magical Beasts available, their dependencies (if any), and where to find them.
1. Fwooper
The Fwooper Beast has no additional dependencies and can be tamed right after you acquire the Nab-sack. One of its dens can be found in the Feldcroft Region of the map, which is our preferred Den.
Other dens can be found in Clagmar Coast, Poidsear Coast, and in Hogwarts Valley. Refer to the picture below for the den in the Feldcroft Region.
2. Giant Purple Toad
The Giant Purple Toad has no additional dependencies, and our preferred Den is in the South Hogwarts Region (pictured below). Other dens can be found in North Ford Bog, South Sea Bog, the Forbidden Forest, and in Marunweem Lake.

3. Hippogriff
Unlike the previous two entries, taming the Hippogriff requires the completion of the quest “High Keep.” Our preferred den for getting yourself a Hippogriff is located in the Forbidden Forest (pictured below), though it has other dens in Poidsear Coast and Manor Cape.

4. Jobberknoll
Thankfully, the Jobberknoll has no additional dependencies and can be acquired straight away. Our preferred Den is in the Forbidden Forest (pictured below). It also has dens in the Feldcroft Region, Marunweem Lake, Manor Cape, and Cragcroftshire.

5. Kneazle
The Kneazle does not have any additional dependencies and can be found in the South Sea Bog, Hogwarts Valley, Marunweem Lake, Cragcroftshire, and Clagmar Coast. Our preferred den is in the South Sea Bog, pictured below.

6. Mooncalf
The Mooncalf has no additional dependencies, and our preferred den can be found in the Forbidden Forest. However, make sure to go at night if you actually want to catch any Mooncalves. Other dens can be found in the Feldcroft Region and the South Hogwarts Region.

7. Puffskein
The Puffskein has no additional dependencies. It has dens in the Forbidden Forest, South Hogwarts Region, Hogwarts Valley, Feldcroft Region, Clagmar Coast, and Manor Cape. You can pick whatever location you happen to be closest to, but our preferred one is in the Forbidden Forest.

8. Threstral
The Thestral has no additional dependencies, and our preferred den is in the North Ford Bog. Other dens can be found in Marunweem Lake.

9. Unicorn
The Unicorn has no additional dependencies. This iconic creature can be found in the Forbidden Forest and nowhere else!

10. Pheonix
The Phoenix can only be acquired by completing the quest “Phoenix Rising,” which can be found in Deek’s storyline. Note that this is the last quest Deek gives you, so you’ll have to progress through his entire quest catalogue.
Deek’s quests are gated through progress in the main storyline and character level, so if you do not have any Deek quests available, you may need to progress the main story or level up.
11. Graphorn
To get the legendary Graphorn, you need to progress significantly in the main storyline. You are unable to acquire the Graphorn until after you complete the quest “San Baker’s Trial,” which is one of the final quests of the game. Trust us, the wait is worth it. There is only one Graphorn den in the game, which is in Clagmar Coast.

12. Niffler
The Niffler does not have any additional dependencies, and our preferred den is in the Feldcroft Region. Furthermore, you can find other Niffler dens in the North Hogwarts Region, Hogwarts Valley, Poidsear Coast, Manor Cape, and Cragcroftshire.

13. Diricawl
Finally, the last Magical Beast on our list in the Diricawl. It has no additional dependencies, and our preferred Den is in Clagmar Coast, with numerous others in Hogwarts Valley and Marunweem Lake.

How to Breed Magical Beasts
In Hogwarts Legacy, you can breed the Magical Beasts you capture. Whether it’s for farming the valuable items they drop more efficiently or giving them a partner for life, breeding your Magical Beasts can be a good idea.
However, to be able to do so, you’ll have to complete the quest “Foal of the Dead,” given by Deek. It is the third quest in Deek’s quest catalogue, so you won’t have to progress too far to start breeding. Completing the quest will show you the ropes, and you can get to breeding as soon as you’re done!
