Which is the Best House in Hogwarts Legacy? Differences Compared

Not sure whether to go for Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Slytherin or Ravenclaw? Here are the differences between all houses in Hogwarts Legacy.

At the start of Hogwarts Legacy, players are asked to choose their Hogwarts House. It seems like a very crucial decision. However, there is no in-game explanation of the difference between all houses and how your gameplay will be affected.

So we’ve undertaken the crucial responsibility of letting you know the major differences between all houses in Hogwarts Legacy and the impact it will have on your gaming experience.

Selecting Your House in Hogwarts Legacy
Selecting Your House in Hogwarts Legacy

Like in the wizarding world, the Sorting Hat determines your Hogwarts House. The Hat will ask you two questions, the second of which will decide which house you will get.

To directly get into the Hogwarts House of your choice, select daring for Gryffindor, curiosity for Ravenclaw, loyalty for Hufflepuff, and ambition for Slytherin.

There’s no need to worry if you got the wrong option. Just like the Sorting Hat listened to the boy who lived, you can select the Hogwarts House you like or relate to the most. It’s important to note that once you’ve chosen your house, there’s no way to revert your choice.

Let’s dig right into the significant differences between the four Hogwarts Houses.

    Different Dialogues

After being sorted into a house, you go to your respective common rooms and converse with different students. One of the most significant differences, we’ll discuss common rooms at length later.

You get to talk to different people depending on your house. Hufflepuffs can interact with fellow fifth-year students like Adelaide Oakes, Arthur Plummly, and Lenora EverLeigh. Hufflepuffs get to spend more time with Poppy Sweeting, a vital quest companion as well.

Ravenclaws can chit-chat with fellow students like Duncan Everett Clopton, Samantha Dare, and Amit Thakkar- who plays a pivotal role in one of the major quests.

Students of Slytherin can talk to Imelda Reyes, who later appears in the broom-flying races, Ominis Gaunt, and Sebastian Sallow himself, another character that can be taken on side quests.

Picking Gryffindor won’t bring any notable changes to the storyline of Hogwarts Legacy. Still, you can engage with fellow fifth-year Gryffindor students such as Garreth Weasley (Professor Weasley’s nephew), Nellie Oggspire, and Cressida Blume. Additionally, Natasi Onai, who will join you on specific companion missions, is someone you might get to know better.

    Different Common Rooms

Apart from house-specific dialogues, the different common rooms for various Hogwarts Houses are a sight to behold. Each of them has specific and enticing common room secrets as well.

Each common room has its particular entrance which you can visit, but you can only enter your house’s common room. Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw have simple entrances, whereas Slytherin has cool snakes draped over their entrance.

Hufflepuff’s entrance sprays vinegar on you if you’re not from Hufflepuff though. Conversely, Gryffindor has a portrait of the fat lady who tells you to go away.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Slyhterin’s common room is that you can see fish out of the windows as the room offers an underwater view of the Black Lake.

What looks like the coziest place to live, Hufflepuff’s common room has a secret room hidden behind a bookcase filled with pastries and stacked plates.

Perhaps the most iconic, the Gryffindor common room has a secret room behind the grandfather clock, which contains an impressive collection of trophies, chairs, and a locked chest through which you can access a side quest.

If you’re going to choose your house based solely on the views from the common room, we think Ravneclaw looks the most jaw-droppingly stunning.

It also contains a secret rooftop entrance. You will have to pick the lock, which you can only do so after learning Alohomora during the main story. This landing platform is exclusively for students from Ravenclaw, as other players cannot dismount on the rooftop.

    House-Exclusive Quests

One of the biggest differences for each house comes a bit later in the game. It happens shortly after you’ve unlocked the Merlin Trials, as the quest after that is different for each house. They all lead back to the same place, though, and this is the only instance where the story really changes depending on your house.

We don’t want to spoil the game too much for you, but each of these quests touches on interesting themes and topics, taking your character to unique locations in Hogwarts Legacy. As a Slytherin, you must scope Headmaster Black’s personal house elf as you search for a lost family artifact.

As a Ravenclaw, you help look for a special wand that leads your student to the Owlery. Gryffindor students find themselves heavily involved with Nearly Headless Nick and sneaking into the castle kitchens.

The Hufflepuff quest is perhaps the most interesting as it involves solving a murder that actually takes you to Azkaban prison, the only place where you can see the dementors from the game’s preview.

    House-Themed Outfits and Robes

Finally, the cosmetics that you receive in the game will also vary depending on which house you’re in.

Gryffindor students will get red robes, Ravenclaw blue, Hufflepuff yellow, and Slytherin green. Numerous variants of house-themed gear are also different for each house.

An example of an exclusive apparel item is the Relic robe that you get from completing the Italian Keys Quest. These fabulous robes and cloaks look very different depending on which house you choose in Hogwarts Legacy.
