    The AMD Ryzen 9 7950x3D

This is AMD’s weapon to take the gaming industry’s control back from the Intel 13th Generation i9 13900k.The 7950x3D packs a powerful punch with a 16-Core and 32-Thread Desktop Processor with a Base Clock speed of 4.2 GHz. More specs will be discussed later. This beast of a processing machine was released to the masses on the 28th of Feb, 2023, and ever since then, it has been the talk of the town.

    The AMD Ryzen 9 7900x3D

Another Ryzen 9 gaming spectacle variant is the AMD 7900x3D, a powerful 12-core and 24-Thread Desktop Processor with a slightly higher base clock at 4.4 GHz.

The price is also $100 cheaper than its superior variant. This processor was also launched on the same day, that is, the 28th of Feb, 2023. It would be perfect to put these AMDs’ finest against each other.

    The 7900x3D vs. The 7950x3D | Comparison

Someone new might view both of them as very similar in their performance, but that is not the case. The values may differ by only a few percentage points, but that can make all the difference in a great gaming experience. Therefore, we have put the comparison into individual categories.

    Base Clock and Boost Clock

We have already mentioned the base clocks for each of these processors. It’s 4.2 GHz for 7950x3D and 4.4GHz. Now you might wonder why the expensive one has a lesser base clock than the cheaper one. It all comes down to “boost clock” and under-pressure performance.

The 7950x3D has a boost clock of 5.7GHz, whereas the maximum boost clock of 7900x3D sits at 5.6GHz. Even though the clock values are not that different, they really provide a great differentiating point when we consider the extra 25% cores in the Ryzen 7900x3D. This greatly impacts the performance. The difference in performance can be seen in the image given below:

    Source

The left column displays the speed of the Ryzen 7950x3D, which ranks 10. Whereas the Ryzen 7900x3D ranks at 17.

    Caching

Well, we got the base clock values out of the way. Let’s discuss the cache values for both of these processors. The values are in the table below:

    CacheRyzen 7950x3DRyzen 7900x3D
    L11MB768KB
    L216MB12MB
    L3128MB128MB

    Source

The L3 values are the same for both processors. However, the L1 and L2 values differ quite greatly. This also transitions into the performance difference in both processors, especially about multi-core performance.

    Average Base-Clock Scoring (Single/Multi Core)

Let’s discuss the scores on which both processors can be compared when it comes to performance over their base clock. The difference can be seen in the table provided below:

    Average ScoreRyzen 7950x3DRyzen 7900x3D
    Memory Latency91.886
    Single-Core (1 Core)205200
    Dual Core (2 Cores)407394
    Quad Core (4 Cores)808782
    Octa Core (8 Cores)15581516

    Source

Well, from these benchmark scores, we can easily see that Ryzen7950x3D has the upper hand when it comes to performing on the base clock. However, it is quite important to note that these tests have only included up to 8 cores. The real difference starts to emerge when both of the processors are using maximum cores.

The Ryzen 7950x3D is already ahead when used with the same number of cores, but at maximum, with 16 Cores against 12 Cores, the difference and the superiority of the Ryzen 7950x3D becomes jaw-dropping.

    Average Boost-Clock Scoring (Single/Multi Core)

When running on their boost clock, the Ryzen 7950x3D has more clock speed than the Ryzen 7900x3D. The benchmark scores for boost-clock performance can be found in the table below:

    Boost Clock ScoresRyzen 7950x3DRyzen 7900x3D
    Memory Latency99.697.2
    Single-Core (1 Core)222216
    Dual Core (2 Cores)431422
    Quad Core (4 Cores)859840
    Octa Core (8 Cores)16791625

    Source

Well, both of the processors perform significantly better with overclocked cores. However, the outcome is still the same. The Ryzen 7950x3D is superior in benchmark to the Ryzen 7900x3D.

    Best for Value

The Ryzen 7950x3D is probably the best processor out there in the market, beating the entire lineup of Intel’s 19th Generation i9s. Its variant, the Ryzen 7900x3D, might not be the best in the market, but it still sits in the top positions.

However, the difference between the two cards in regards to pricing is approximately equal to $100 dollars. But the difference in specification numbers between these two sibling processors is merely in single digits. Therefore, if you really want to have the top-of-the-line product or the best product of the year, then you should definitely opt for the Ryzen 7950x3D.

But if you are happy to have one of the strongest products of the year, and you can compromise on a couple of frames per second during a game, then $100 will play a vital role. Thus, it would be best if you chose the Ryzen 7900x3D.

    The 7900x3D vs. The 7950x3D | Benchmarks

Well, we have gone through the performance and general comparison of the two beasts. Let’s now talk about their benchmark scores. These scores will not include gaming benchmarks but rather the benchmarks scores of Cinebench, Geekbench, and iGPU.

The Ryzen 7950x3D vs. Intel 13th Gen

Well, we had to include the battle of the beasts from Ryzen and Intel in here. The gaming benchmarks are showcased on AMD’s website to display how unique their 2023’s product is. The difference can be seen in the following image:The scores are pretty clear, and they depict that Ryzen is the winner in this year’s processor battle.

    iGPU Benchmark for Single Core

The iGPU is used to test the theoretical computer performance of the internal graphic unit that is located inside the processor. The scores that are displayed below were taken with the single precision accurate at 32-bit in GFLOPS:

    Source

For this benchmark, both of the processors score the same due to the fact that the graphical unit inside the processor is almost identical.

    The Geekbench 5 Scores

The Geekbench 5 is a popular benchmarking tool. This tool can run both single-core tests and multi-core tests. The GB5 single-core scores for both processors are as follows:

    Source

Surprisingly, the Geekbench 5’s single-core test puts the Ryzen 7900x3D ahead by merely 12 points. However, that all changes with the GB 5’s multi-core test, whose results are as follows:

    Source

In the multi-core benchmark performance, the 7950x3D has approximately four thousand more points than the other variant, which is a very big difference in the scores of processors.

    The Geekbench 6 Scores

Similar to the GB5, the GB6 tests the processors in regard to their new architecture and more. The GB6 single-core test scores are as follows:

    Source

In these results, you can clearly see that the Ryzen 7950x3D takes the lead in the single-core. This difference is due to the fact that the GB6 actually tests the optimized utilization of the newer CPU Architecture, thus making this result more accurate for the newer generation of Ryzen 9 Processors.

The GB6’ multi-core test scores are as follows:

    Source

At this point, we already know that the Ryzen 7950x3D is far superior to the Ryzen 7900x3D when it comes to multi-core performance.

    Cinebench Score

The Cinebench is arguably the most popular benchmarking tool out there. The Cinebench R23 scores for single-core performance are as follows:

    Source

Putting the Ryzen 7950x3D slightly ahead of the Ryzen 7900x3D. However, the multi-core scores are as follows:

    Source

The multi-core test scores of Cinebench R23 put the Ryzen 7950x3D a whopping 10.5k points ahead of its other variant.

    The Verdict

Both of the processors: the Ryzen 7950x3D and the Ryzen 7900x3D, are going to bring the gaming community back to AMD. Both of these processors are top-of-the-line products by AMD, and they wrestle Intel’s 13th Gen i9 processors with distinct superiority, especially when it comes to gaming. All of their differences have been listed in this post for you. By going after this post, you can easily decide which AMD Processor you want to buy in 2023.
